Google launches Nano Banana AI photo editor, Sundar Pichai goes bananas with photo of his dog

Last evening, Google CEO Sundar Pichai confirmed via Twitter that Google is behind the viral AI tool dubbed “Nano Banana,” officially named the Gemini 2.5 Flash Image. This innovative image editor allows users to easily modify photos through simple prompts while maintaining the original subject’s likeness. In celebration of International Dog Day, Pichai showcased the tool’s capabilities by sharing amusing edited images of his dog, Jeffree, donning various costumes. The Gemini 2.5 Flash Image model enhances prior image generation features in the Gemini app, addressing common frustrations such as likeness preservation in edits. Users can upload a photo, provide a prompt, and create multi-turn edits or blend multiple photos into one seamless image. Gemini is rolling out globally for both free and premium users, with all AI-generated images carrying visible and invisible watermarks. The model is also available for developers via APIs, starting at $30 per million tokens.
