In 2025, the AI landscape dramatically shifted as Google emerged as a key player in the AI war, challenging OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai had previously issued a ‘Code Red’ about ChatGPT, and by late 2025, OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman expressed concern over Google’s Gemini 3, which achieved its fastest rollout in Google Search’s history. Recent data from Similarweb highlights that Gemini’s generative AI web traffic soared from 5.4% to 18.2% in just 12 months, directly impacting ChatGPT, which dropped from an 87.2% market share to 68%. OpenAI has also lost ground in the enterprise sector, with its market share falling to 27%. Meanwhile, Google’s parent company, Alphabet, has seen stock prices surge over 65% this year, attributed to the success of its Gemini AI, which now boasts 650 million monthly active users, reflecting its growing influence in the competitive AI arena.
