Government working on plan to use AI and apps to solve public sector issues – The Irish Times

Government experts are devising an outline plan to integrate innovative technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) and next-generation mobile apps, to address public service challenges. During a presentation to the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Artificial Intelligence, Barry Lowry, the Government Chief Information Officer, highlighted the potential for this initiative to foster exportable intellectual property. The strategy involves collaboration with public service partners to identify challenges that can be met with currently unavailable innovative solutions. An evaluation panel will select the most viable solutions for development via the EU Innovation Partnership procurement method, supporting startups through mentoring and funding. This approach aims to introduce new technologies and enhance governance while ensuring value for money. While guidelines on the responsible use of AI in public service exist, they primarily offer oversight rather than detailed technical instruction. This initiative is considered an exciting first step in revolutionizing public service through technology.
