Coimbatore: AI and Robotics Training for Government School Students
In an effort to bridge socio-economic gaps, Tamil Nadu has launched the Tamil Nadu Schools Programme for AI, Robotics, and Knowledge of Online Tools (TN SPARK) to train government school students in AI applications and coding. This pilot initiative targets Classes VI to IX, covering 85 government schools in Coimbatore, including 78 middle schools and several higher secondary institutions. Teachers are equipped with bilingual textbooks, enhancing learning in both English and Tamil. With 880 hi-tech lab computers, students engage in practical learning, cultivating skills in computer science fundamentals, algorithms, and data visualization. The curriculum also introduces them to creative AI tools, including text-to-image generation and digital art. As students explore advanced technologies, they show increased interest and improved learning outcomes compared to traditional teaching methods. This program not only empowers underprivileged students but also prepares them for future opportunities in technology and innovation.
