Two U.S. industry organizations have raised concerns over ByteDance’s new AI tool, Seedance 2.0, launched on February 12. The Motion Picture Association accused it of massive copyright infringement, while SAG-AFTRA condemned the unauthorized use of performers’ voices and likenesses. SAG-AFTRA president Sean Astin, featured in AI-generated clips, highlighted the tool’s disregard for legal and ethical standards. The Human Artistry Campaign, including SAG-AFTRA and other industry bodies, also criticized Seedance 2.0, labeling it an attack on creators and a threat to personal autonomy. They warned that these deepfakes undermine human talent and demanded legal action against such violations. As the industry grapples with the implications of AI in creative fields, the demand for responsible AI development remains critical. ByteDance has yet to respond to the backlash surrounding Seedance 2.0.
