Healthcare providers launch AI-focused joint venture for GP clinics

The Health Accelerator, co-chaired by Bindi Norwell, is innovating healthcare through AI and digital tools, funded entirely by private sources. It has developed “digital assistants and robots” for clinical and administrative tasks, including Australian AI transcription software from Heidi Health, aimed at saving GPs time during consultations. The integration of AI tools is carefully managed to ensure privacy within closed systems, while addressing concerns about job displacement. Partnering with practices and start-ups, the Accelerator launched AI tools to enhance cardiovascular risk assessments. Recent trials by Health New Zealand now allow AI scribes for efficient documentation. Early users, such as Dr. Emily Cavana, report mixed experiences, highlighting strengths in reducing the mental load, while also noting challenges in accuracy. Although adoption varies among GPs, the demand for AI in healthcare continues to grow, promising improved efficiency and better patient engagement.
