Hollywood Grapples with the Challenges of AI Integration

0
Hollywood has no idea what to do about AI

In this week’s Sources by Alex Heath, a stark contrast between Silicon Valley and Hollywood’s perspectives on AI is highlighted. At OpenAI DevDay, CEO Sam Altman introduced the Sora app, aimed at content creators and celebrated by them for deepening connections, likening it to a modern form of fanfiction. However, Hollywood executives at Bloomberg’s Screentime event displayed uncertainty regarding AI’s rapid advancement. While Altman was enthusiastic, many in Hollywood, including Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters, dodged critical discussions about copyright infringement linked to AI. Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison referred to AI merely as a “new pencil” for creation. Warner Music CEO Robert Kyncl emphasized the need for licensed content, showcasing the music industry’s proactive stance. The overall impression is that Hollywood’s hesitation to address AI’s implications may lead to being outpaced by technology, as the industry struggles to adapt to the complex challenges posed by AI advancements.
