Hon Hai could roll out AI hardware in Ohio under a deal with OpenAI

Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., known globally as Foxconn, is set to establish artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure in Ohio, partnering with OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT. This initiative, announced during the annual Hon Hai Tech Day, will begin with research and development in San Jose, California, before moving to Ohio for manufacturing. The Ohio site, repurposed for AI data centers, aligns with Hon Hai’s strategy to bolster U.S. AI supply chains and hardware production. Notably, OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, visited Taiwan earlier, leading to a memorandum of understanding for collaboration. The initial agreement focuses on design and manufacturing readiness without financial commitments. In addition to its U.S. projects, Hon Hai is collaborating with SoftBank and KDDI in Japan for AI data centers and plans to launch a joint venture with Alphabet’s Intrinsic for AI robotics. Hon Hai is also constructing a major AI supercomputing hub in Taiwan by 2026, underlining its commitment to diverse technological advancements.
