Hong Kong researchers create AI tool for detecting cardiovascular recurrence risk

A groundbreaking study from the University of Hong Kong (HKU) reveals that patients with the “three highs”—high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and high blood lipids—face a 70% chance of suffering cardiovascular disorders within a decade. This AI-driven risk prediction model, known as P-CARDIAC, was specifically developed for the Chinese population, addressing gaps in existing tools that were based on Western demographics and only considered 20 risk factors. Current statistics show that these conditions affect 30%, 10%, and 50% of Hong Kong residents aged 18-84, significantly increasing the risk of serious health issues like stroke and coronary heart disease. In 2023, over 7,000 lives in Hong Kong were lost due to these complications. The research emphasizes the necessity for ongoing cardiovascular health monitoring and demonstrates the potential for AI to enhance personalized treatment strategies and optimize healthcare resource allocation.
