Hyper, a startup specializing in AI technology, has developed an innovative voice agent to manage non-emergency calls for police departments. Operating in Ontario, Manitoba, and the U.S., this artificial intelligence system aims to alleviate the burden on 911 operators who often receive trivial calls, such as cat rescues or noise complaints. Co-founded by Ben Sanders and Damian McCabe in 2023, Hyper’s technology successfully processes up to 65% of non-emergency inquiries, allowing operators to concentrate on critical emergencies. The AI agent, named “Sara,” provides assistance in various scenarios, helps complete forms, and navigates callers through the reporting process. The Halton Regional Police Service has integrated this technology, demonstrating its efficiency in reducing call wait times and improving response rates. As Hyper seeks to expand its footprint, it leverages analytical data from prior calls to enhance its capabilities, positioning itself as a crucial partner for public safety administrations.
