India is enhancing its pandemic preparedness through an AI-enabled tool under the National One Health Mission (NOHM) to monitor emerging pathogens. This initiative aims to detect zoonotic diseases, viral infections, bacterial illnesses, and parasitic threats proactively rather than reactively. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has called for Expressions of Interest (EoI) to develop AI tools for the early identification of potential outbreaks. By integrating data from humans, animals, and the environment, the system seeks to identify early warning signs of diseases like Zika, Nipah, and anthrax. This shift from a reactive to a predictive approach allows for faster risk assessment and proactive measures before cases escalate.
