The Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar (IITGN) is addressing key electric vehicle (EV) safety concerns with an innovative “doctor for batteries.” This smart energy storage diagnostic system continuously monitors battery health using AI and sensors to predict potential failures before they escalate into dangerous situations like fires. Developed to withstand India’s challenging conditions—heat, humidity, and vibrations—this predictive tool offers real-time alerts via vehicle dashboards, enhancing EV safety and longevity. By focusing on low-cost, India-specific battery health datasets and AI models, IITGN’s system conforms to new safety standards (AIS 156, AIS 038 Rev 2) and is designed for easy integration into existing EV infrastructure. Supported by the Mission for Advancement in High-Impact Areas (MAHA), this initiative promotes public trust in sustainable transport and aims to reduce ownership costs while positioning India as a global leader in EV safety innovations.
