Sarvam, an Indian AI startup, has launched its Indus chat app for web and mobile users, targeting India’s fast-growing generative AI market, which is currently dominated by giants like OpenAI and Google. This launch follows the introduction of Sarvam’s 105B model at the India AI Impact Summit, showcasing their focus on large language models tailored for local languages. The Indus app, available in beta on iOS, Android, and the web, allows users to engage through text and audio. While users can sign in via phone or Google accounts, the service is currently limited to India. The app faces some restrictions, including an inability to delete chat history without account deletion. Sarvam aims to gather user feedback as it gradually expands access. Founded in 2023, the startup has secured $41 million in funding, positioning itself as a key player in India’s AI landscape, fostering local alternatives to international platforms.
