Unlocking AI Safety Education: Insights from Harvard’s First Course!
This fall, Harvard launched its inaugural AI Safety course, expertly led by Boaz Barak. As the head TA, I worked with an incredible team—Natalie Abreu, Sunny Qin, and Hanlin Zhang—to provide students an immersive learning experience in AI safety research.
Course Highlights:
-
Dynamic Structure:
- Weekly 3-hour seminars with guest lecturers.
- Engaging assignments including a midterm project and a final paper.
-
Inclusive Participation:
- Approximately 70 students, blend of undergraduates and PhDs.
- Collaborative projects culminating in research papers and posters.
-
Open Resources:
- Public syllabus and recorded lectures available here.
This course not only refined students’ understanding of AI safety but actively engaged them in meaningful research. I believe similar courses would greatly benefit academia everywhere!
