Sachin Katti, Intel’s Chief Technology and Artificial Intelligence Officer, is departing for OpenAI to contribute to its compute infrastructure for Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). Katti joined Intel in 2023 and held a pivotal role in shaping the company’s AI strategy and product roadmap. In a statement, he expressed gratitude for his four-year tenure at Intel, which focused on networking, edge computing, and AI initiatives. Intel’s CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, will assume leadership over the AI and Advanced Technologies Groups following Katti’s exit, emphasizing AI’s critical role in Intel’s strategy. OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman expressed excitement about collaborating with Katti on AGI research. This transition comes amid a restructuring of Intel’s data center AI strategy, which faced challenges in meeting revenue targets for its Gaudi chips. Katti also boasts an academic background as an adjunct professor at Stanford and co-founded Kumu Networks. Intel has seen several executive departures recently, underscoring a significant organizational shift.
