Dartmouth College has launched Evergreen, an innovative AI-powered chatbot designed to enhance student mental health and wellness. Announced on World Mental Health Day, Evergreen is developed by 130 students alongside experts from the Geisel School of Medicine and the Department of Computer Science, with over 100,000 hours invested in creating a personalized user experience. Scheduled for completion in December, the chatbot will provide real-time guidance on wellness areas such as social connection and anxiety management, reinforced by context-aware technology that adapts to individual student needs.
Evergreen aims to proactively empower students, encouraging resilience and offering support before crises arise, without replacing existing mental health resources. The initiative is backed by extensive research and aims to ensure broad, accessible mental health resources for college students. This student-led project is part of Dartmouth’s larger commitment to fostering mental wellness and preventing mental health issues on campus.
