On February 12, 2026, Beijing-based AI company Z.ai launched its innovative AI model, GLM-5. With a staggering 744 billion total parameters and 40 billion active parameters, GLM-5 outshines competitors like Gemini 3.0 Pro and GPT-5.2 across numerous benchmarks. Notably, this powerful model can handle complex administrative tasks, including document creation in Word and Excel, with capabilities to format and insert visual elements. Utilizing a proprietary reinforcement learning framework called “slime,” GLM-5 markedly enhances efficiency, making it superior to its predecessor, GLM-4.7, released in December 2025. Additionally, it is being offered as an open model for free download. Subscribers to Z.ai’s GLM Coding Plan will receive gradual access, while a guide for using GLM-5 as an OpenClaw agent will be available. Users can download the model from Hugging Face and ModelScope under the MIT License.
