Kakao has announced the upcoming launch of an innovative AI product in collaboration with OpenAI at its annual developer conference, “if(kakao),” scheduled for next month. This product aims to integrate AI capabilities into KakaoTalk, enhancing user experiences by recommending context-aware actions. CEO Chung Shin-a emphasized that the service will be accessible to users by year-end, targeting rapid growth in the domestic B2C AI market. The announcement coincided with Kakao’s impressive second-quarter earnings, which exceeded expectations with a 39% year-on-year increase in operating profit, totaling 185.9 billion won ($134 million). Revenue also rose, attributed to balanced growth in advertising, e-commerce, payment, and mobility. While portal and content segments experienced minor declines, the overall financial performance signals robust operational efficiency and strategic advancements. As Kakao prepares to unveil its transformative AI service, it reaffirms its commitment to leading the digital landscape in Korea.
