The City of Kamloops is exploring AI tools, including chatbots, to enhance information accessibility for staff and residents. The Information Technology department is piloting these applications to summarize council agendas, manage zoning and permitting inquiries, and assist with waste classification. IT manager Kuldeep Bath highlighted that these tools aim to provide accurate guidance by citing relevant bylaws and sharable documentation. A public-facing AI chatbot is under development to answer questions about city processes, while an internal chatbot will assist staff by quickly accessing policies and procedures. The initiative also includes alerts for council meetings based on specific keywords, facilitating timely updates. Senior software developer Marco Lussetti emphasized the importance of accuracy, mentioning that thorough training and testing will ensure reliable information, prioritizing current processes when uncertainty arises. This innovative approach represents a significant step in integrating AI for improved municipal service delivery.
