Udio has forged a significant partnership with Kobalt, shortly after Kobalt’s sale to Primary Wave and Udio’s licensing agreements with major music entities, including Merlin Network and Universal Music Group. This collaboration will enhance Udio’s upcoming AI music creation service, set to launch later this year. Designed to operate separately, the platform enables users to generate music from licensed compositions and approved vocal models. The subscription-based service aims to facilitate the creation of remixes, covers, and original songs, pending rights holders’ participation. While specific compensation details for artists and songwriters remain undisclosed, the companies emphasize protective measures for rights holders. Kobalt CEO Laurent Hubert highlighted their commitment to leveraging emerging technologies for artist opportunities, while Udio’s Andrew Sanchez reinforced the importance of fair treatment for rights holders. Despite current litigation challenges, including issues with Sony Music, Udio continues to advocate for artists’ rights in the evolving music landscape.
