The Lawrence School District is currently inviting applications for volunteers to join the Ad Hoc Generative AI and Evolving Technologies Advisory, which aims to develop policies that address embedded biases in AI technology while ensuring data safety for students and staff. Applications will be accepted until Friday, November 14, via a Google form published by the district. Superintendent Jeanice Swift reported that over 50 applications have already been submitted, with board adoption anticipated in early 2026. The advisory group will consist of board members, educators, union representatives, community members with expertise in education and technology, and possibly students. Following concerns about AI monitoring tools, the district switched to Managed Methods from Gaggle to prioritize student privacy. The advisory group is scheduled to meet in December, January, and February to establish comprehensive AI guidelines. For ongoing updates, subscribe to the Times newsletter.
