Linux Foundation launches Agentic AI open standards hub

The Linux Foundation has launched the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF), uniting major AI players like Anthropic, Block, and OpenAI to promote open-source standards for AI agents. The foundation encompasses three pivotal projects: Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol (MCP), Block’s Goose framework, and OpenAI’s AGENTS.md convention. Each project aims to create interoperability and shared infrastructure for agentic AI, which extends beyond conversational models to autonomous task execution.

MCP facilitates connections between AI models and external tools, with over 10,000 servers already active. Goose allows developers to construct local-first AI agents using standardized connections, while AGENTS.md standardizes project instructions for AI coding agents across 60,000+ open-source projects. The AAIF comprises a diverse membership, with major firms like Amazon Web Services and Google involved. This initiative aims to foster an open, community-driven ecosystem for agentic AI, addressing concerns about fragmentation and proprietary technologies through shared governance and transparency.
