Major Corporations Experience Sluggish Growth in AI Tool Adoption

Drawing on the US Census Bureau’s fortnightly survey of more than one million firms, the research shows a downward trend in reported adoption of AI tools among businesses with 250 or more employees

Recent analysis by Apollo Academy reveals that large organizations may be losing momentum in adopting artificial intelligence (AI) tools. Drawing from the US Census Bureau’s biweekly survey of over one million firms, the data shows a decline in AI use among businesses with 250 or more employees. While AI utilization has generally increased across the economy, major firms seem to be lagging rather than leading. Smaller and mid-sized companies, however, are experiencing steady growth in AI application, benefiting from agility in experimentation. Challenges such as integration costs, ROI demonstration, data security, and cultural resistance may explain this slowdown. Additionally, evolving regulatory landscapes might prompt larger companies to adopt a more cautious approach. Internationally, disparities in AI adoption persist, particularly noted in the UK, where employer support for AI remains lower. Firms that hesitate risk losing competitive advantages in productivity and efficiency as the landscape evolves.
