Malaysia is set to enhance its national AI capabilities and digital sovereignty through a groundbreaking RM10 billion partnership between YTL and Nvidia. This initiative aims to develop Malaysia’s own large language model (LLM) and establish an advanced AI ecosystem backed by sustainable energy sources. The project will see the construction of green-powered data centers equipped with Nvidia’s high-performance GPUs, positioning Malaysia as a strategic hub for AI and semiconductors within ASEAN.
Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz emphasized the role of this collaboration in reinforcing the region’s neutrality and technological aspirations. YTL’s AI Cloud, located at its renewable-powered data center in Johor, will provide businesses with secure access to GPU-as-a-Service, enabling efficient AI integration without increasing their carbon footprints. Furthermore, partnerships with Equinix and Transcelestial will enhance connectivity and accelerate AI adoption across Malaysia. This strategic move aligns Malaysia with emerging tech trends, establishing it as a leader in the AI landscape.
