Malaysia to Initiate Legal Action Against Musk’s X and xAI Over Grok AI Concerns

Grok AI issue: Malaysia will take legal action against Musk's X, xAI

Malaysian authorities announced legal action against Elon Musk’s platform X and its AI unit, xAI, for user safety failures related to the Grok chatbot. This comes after Malaysia and Indonesia blocked Grok amid concerns of its misuse in generating sexually explicit and non-consensual images. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission stated that Grok has been linked to harmful content, prompting notices to X and xAI for removal, which have been ignored. The commission emphasized the serious legal implications of content involving women and children, indicating a breach of Malaysian law. Launched in 2023, Grok includes adult content features that have drawn criticism, especially from the EU, India, and the UK, where regulations against “nudification apps” are advancing. Despite limiting some features for paying users, critics argue the response is insufficient. Musk’s companies have yet to publicly address these Southeast Asian restrictions, leading to further scrutiny of generative AI tools.
