Authorities from the New Mexico Department of Justice (NMDOJ) acted on a CyberTip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which led to the discovery of inappropriate content linked to Gallagher’s IP address. Investigators found explicit photos on his device after tracking the IP, and Gallagher reportedly confessed to manipulating images with AI technology. The NMDOJ emphasized that the editing apps used are widely available in mobile app stores. Attorney General Raúl Torrez warned that today’s arrest serves as a significant alert to potential predators and highlighted the need for updated legal protections against the exploitation of children through generative AI. Gallagher faces multiple felony counts and could face up to 47 years in prison if convicted, along with lifetime sex offender registration.
