Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) is set to enhance its workforce efficiency by expanding AI tools in collaboration with Microsoft. Over the past 18 months, MFT has integrated Dragon Copilot ambient voice technology and distributed approximately 1,500 Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses to support clinicians. The upcoming phase will increase access to Copilot for all corporate staff, with plans for an ‘Agent Factory’ to develop AI solutions for automating routine tasks in administration and finance. CEO Mark Cubbon emphasized the importance of integrating AI responsibly with safeguards and staff involvement. The aim is to streamline administrative processes, reduce human error, and free up time for direct patient care. As part of a three-year enterprise agreement, MFT will receive an additional 6,500 Copilot licenses annually. Microsoft UK CEO Darren Hardman praised the initiative, highlighting the potential to empower healthcare teams. Discussions about a national NHS deal with Microsoft for AVT are ongoing but unconfirmed.
