A Meta spokesperson challenged the accuracy of these compensation claims, stating that exaggerations exist. Despite the competitive salaries, such as $850,000 for a senior engineer at Meta, many feel their influence might be greater at OpenAI. Meta has recently appointed Alexandr Wang as chief AI officer and Nat Friedman, previously of GitHub, to co-lead the new lab. However, no OpenAI staff who transitioned to Meta received offers approaching the reported $300 million threshold.
