AI is revolutionizing the legal profession by enhancing workflows in research, drafting, and due diligence. However, it raises ethical concerns, highlighted by a 2023 incident where a federal judge fined lawyers for submitting fictitious legal research generated by ChatGPT. This event underscores the need for a robust human-in-the-loop mechanism to ensure AI’s reliability in critical legal contexts. Despite these challenges, the integration of AI in law is deemed necessary, as noted by the Chief Justice of India, D.Y. Chandrachud. Legal education must adapt, equipping students to critically assess AI-generated content and citations. Research titled “Incorporating Safety Through Accuracy and Fairness” aims to evaluate the applicability of large language models (LLMs) in the Indian legal landscape.
