Meta has announced its acquisition of Singapore-based AI startup Manus to enhance its general-purpose AI efforts. The purchase aims to integrate Manus’s advanced autonomous agents, capable of complex tasks like market research and data analysis, across Meta’s product suite. Ensuring compliance, Meta stated there will be no ongoing Chinese ownership interests and Manus’s operations in China will cease. Founded in China, Manus moved to Singapore in mid-2025 and has been under scrutiny due to its origins amidst U.S.-China economic tensions. Despite this, Manus will maintain its subscription services and operations in Singapore. Their AI agents have reportedly processed over 147 trillion tokens, highlighting their ambitious reach yet acknowledging some execution errors. As Meta continues to bolster its AI capabilities via acquisitions and increased hiring, this deal represents a significant step in delivering innovative AI solutions to consumers and businesses worldwide.
