Meta is heavily investing in AI-driven technologies, including advanced datacenters and automated ad tools, as it aims to enhance user engagement and profitability across its platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. To spearhead these efforts, Meta has formed the “MRS Research” team within the Recommendation Systems division, led by Yang Song, a former TikTok executive renowned for his expertise in recommendation algorithms. This elite team focuses on improving content understanding, user insights, and ranking systems, leveraging the skills of seasoned researchers from top organizations like Amazon, OpenAI, and Google. As part of its ambitious three-year plan to invest over $600 billion in AI superintelligence, Meta has also acquired a significant stake in the startup Scale AI and appointed Alexandr Wang to lead the new Meta Superintelligence Labs. Recently, Meta launched an updated ad-serving process on Instagram, featuring an Adaptive Ranking Model for enhanced ad relevance.
