Meta is strengthening its collaboration with Broadcom, extending their partnership to 2029 to develop custom processors for AI features across Meta’s applications. This agreement includes a significant commitment of over one gigawatt of computing capacity, equivalent to powering around 750,000 U.S. homes. A key change in leadership is also announced, with Broadcom CEO Hock Tan transitioning to an advisory role focused on chip strategy. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg emphasized that this deal is crucial for building the computational infrastructure needed to provide “personal superintelligence to billions.” As demand for AI-driven computing surges, major tech companies like Meta, Google, and Amazon are shifting towards designing custom silicon to decrease dependency on high-cost Nvidia processors. This strategic move is proving beneficial for Broadcom, which has seen its shares rise 3.5% in after-hours trading, while Meta’s shares remained stable.
