Meta has partnered with Midjourney to license its “aesthetics technology” to enhance the visual appeal of its future models and products. According to Meta’s Chief AI Officer, Alexandr Wang, this collaboration aims to improve design capabilities through joint research efforts, though it remains unclear if Midjourney’s image models will be directly utilized. Midjourney’s founder, David Holz, emphasized the importance of independence and community-driven values, reiterating that this partnership is strictly a licensing agreement, not an acquisition. Holz reassured that all current Midjourney tools will remain publicly available, maintaining the existing service model. Despite strong competition in the AI image generation space, Midjourney continues to innovate, recently launching its inaugural video generator. The effectiveness of Midjourney’s technology in enhancing Meta’s chatbots, which have faced criticism for a lack of common sense, remains uncertain. This collaboration represents a strategic approach to boosting aesthetics while both companies continue their independent growth strategies.
