Meta has announced plans to utilize conversations with Meta AI as a data source for enhancing ad targeting across its platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and WhatsApp. With over 1 billion monthly users, Meta aims to improve user experience by personalizing content and advertisements based on interactions with its AI. Beginning December 16, 2025, users will be notified about this update via emails and notifications.
While this initiative may raise privacy concerns, Meta assures that sensitive topics like religion and political beliefs will remain excluded from ad targeting. Instead, users may receive tailored recommendations based on casual interactions, such as discussions about hobbies like hiking, leading to relevant posts or ads. This shift highlights the continuing trend of using user data to refine advertising strategies, positioning Meta to deliver more personalized content—ultimately reinforcing the perception that users are the product in a data-driven ecosystem.
