Microsoft, OpenAI, and Anthropic launch $23M initiative to train teachers on AI use

As AI technology increasingly permeates education, Microsoft, OpenAI, and Anthropic are launching the National Academy of AI Instruction, a $23 million initiative dedicated to training 400,000 K-12 teachers over the next five years. This program, developed in partnership with the American Federation of Teachers, aims to assist educators in integrating AI tools like ChatGPT effectively and ethically into their classrooms. With both online and in-person training commencing this fall, the academy will also establish a physical campus in New York City. Funding comes from Microsoft ($12.5 million), OpenAI ($10 million), and Anthropic ($500,000). Randi Weingarten, AFT president, stated, “AI holds tremendous promise but huge challenges.” The initiative will not only empower educators but also influence future AI education tools based on classroom feedback, establishing a national model for leveraging AI without overburdening teachers or compromising educational integrity.
