Occurring in August, the attack targeted U.S. organizations, using malicious SVG files disguised as PDFs. These files mimicked authentic business dashboards and employed complex obfuscation tactics, such as hidden elements, making detection difficult for standard security measures.
Utilizing Microsoft Defender for Office 365’s AI-empowered protections, the campaign was blocked by analyzing behavioral signals and infrastructure patterns. The synthetic SVG code likely generated by AI displayed unique characteristics, reinforcing Microsoft’s assertion that advanced AI tools can enhance phishing strategies.
