MongoDB has introduced new capabilities designed to enhance AI tool development, including a public preview of vector search in its self-managed offerings and the general availability of the Modern Context Protocol (MCP) server. Announced during MongoDB.local NYC 2025, these features will benefit enterprises investing in AI since the launch of generative AI technology, enabling more efficient and informed data analyses.

Noteworthy additions include an updated document database and an AI service for modernizing data infrastructure. Analysts commend MongoDB’s strategic shift from a database specialist to a broader data platform provider, capable of handling complex AI workloads alongside traditional operations. The new text and vector search capabilities will democratize AI development, catering to on-premises environments where many enterprises keep sensitive data for security reasons.

The MongoDB Application Modernization Platform (AMP) was also unveiled, assisting businesses in transitioning from legacy systems to modern applications, thereby enhancing AI readiness and operational efficiency.
