MPA Calls on OpenAI to Take 'Immediate and Decisive Action' Against Sora 2

Following the recent release of Sora 2, the Motion Picture Association (MPA) has urged OpenAI to take swift action to combat copyright infringements linked to this AI video service. Many videos produced by Sora 2 featuring copyrighted film and television content have proliferated on social media shortly after the tool’s launch on September 30. MPA Chairman and CEO Charles Rivkin emphasized that it is OpenAI’s responsibility to prevent copyright violations, not that of the content creators.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman previously addressed concerns, indicating that updates will soon allow rightsholders greater control over character generation. Currently, the opt-out policy requires companies to proactively decline the use of their intellectual property. Altman confirmed ongoing modifications aimed at monetization and partnership opportunities, reflecting responses from users and rightsholders. As OpenAI navigates this evolving landscape, both successful and unsuccessful attempts at refining Sora 2 are expected.
