Google has unveiled its advanced image generation model, Nano Banana 2, officially known as Gemini 3.1 Flash Image. This updated model boasts faster speeds and produces more realistic visuals, set to become the default in the Gemini app’s Fast, Thinking, and Pro modes. Initially launched in August 2025, Nano Banana spurred millions of image generations, particularly in India. Its Pro version followed in November 2025, enhancing detail quality. Nano Banana 2 retains these high-fidelity traits while improving speed, supporting resolutions from 512 pixels to 4K. It can maintain character consistency for five characters and fidelity for 14 objects, facilitating cohesive storytelling. With robust support for vivid lighting and sharp textures, Nano Banana 2 also serves as the default image generator in Google Search and Flow tool across 141 countries. Developers can access it through the Gemini API and Antigravity. All generated images feature a SynthID watermark, ensuring identity for AI-generated content.
