A three-day national workshop focused on Local Fund Audit (LFA) commenced on January 19, 2026, at the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR). Organized by the Centre for Internal Audit in Rural Development (CIARD) in collaboration with the International Centre for Audit of Local Governance (iCAL) and guided by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG), the event aims to enhance the effectiveness of audit systems within Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and urban local bodies. Key speakers, including G Narendra Kumar and Manish Kumar, emphasized the importance of accountability, transparency, and the adoption of IT and Artificial Intelligence in audit practices. The curriculum covers local governance accounting, standardization of audit processes, and innovative digital tools. Attendees include Principal Accountant Generals, senior officials from the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, and state audit departments, with discussions aimed at developing actionable strategies and improving local fund audit frameworks across India.
