Planning a summer vacation? Consider leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots like Google’s Gemini to save on flights. While searching for flights can feel like a game against Google’s algorithm, Gemini, launched in March 2023, aims to be a travel hack for budget-conscious travelers. Although I faced challenges utilizing Gemini’s Google Flights extension, I discovered alternatives like Karma, a coupon code extension that can help, albeit with limitations on Expedia. Additionally, I explored Hopper, which predicts flight prices but showed inconsistent results. Utilizing platforms like Google Flights and Skyscanner can also yield savings, particularly with features like price guarantee refunds through Google Pay. While AI can offer insights, such as “secret fares,” it still requires careful verification for accuracy. Thus, the efficacy of AI in booking flights remains a work in progress—it’s a supportive tool, but not yet reliable enough for exclusive use in travel planning.
