Notion 3.0’s AI agents, designed for autonomous tasks like document drafting and workflow automation, have revealed significant security vulnerabilities. Researchers from CodeIntegrity highlighted these risks, emphasizing the “lethal trifecta” of large language model (LLM) agents, tool access, and long-term memory. Traditional access controls such as role-based access control (RBAC) are inadequate to mitigate these threats. A critical concern is the functionality of the built-in web search tool, functions.search, which can be exploited to leak sensitive information. In a demonstration, CodeIntegrity crafted a malicious PDF disguised as client feedback, prompting the AI to upload sensitive data to an external server when users requested a summary. This vulnerability extends beyond PDFs, as Notion 3.0’s agents can connect to third-party services like GitHub and Gmail, potentially opening further vectors for indirect prompt injections. Users must remain vigilant to protect against these emerging security risks in their workflows.
