Faculty, student AI awareness learning modules available | E-News

West Virginia University (WVU) has launched new online learning modules aimed at enhancing AI literacy, addressing plagiarism, and upholding academic integrity. This initiative responds to a significant increase in AI-related academic integrity complaints, as highlighted by Associate Provost Evan Widders. The faculty module provides instructors with practical strategies to create “AI-resilient” assignments and develop clear AI policies. It also emphasizes authentic learning and critical thinking, moving beyond traditional AI detection tools. Conversely, the student module clarifies AI’s functionality, ethical implications, and the risks of misuse, which can devalue their degree. Director of Academic Integrity, Paul Heddings, notes that these resources bridge the gap in understanding AI and promote meaningful discourse on responsible use. Developed with feedback from the WVU community, the modules aim to ensure consistency and enhance the educational experience, reducing integrity concerns.
