Developed by a hobbyist, this DIY counter-surveillance tool detects devices like Meta’s Ray-Ban Stories and Snap Spectacles using Bluetooth signals. As wearable AI technology proliferates, the app highlights public unease regarding unwanted recording. It scans for unique Bluetooth signatures emitted by popular smart glasses, typically within a 30-foot range. With over 700,000 Ray-Ban smart glasses shipped in 2025 and Snap’s fifth-generation Spectacles featuring advanced AI, these devices have become commonplace, leading to increased privacy debates. Unlike smartphones, which are visibly held, smart glasses blend in with ordinary eyewear, making it harder to notice when recording occurs.
