Nigeria’s government has unveiled CLHEEAN, an AI-driven mobile application aimed at enhancing citizen engagement with public institutions, announced by the National Orientation Agency on March 30. This innovative platform acts as a virtual assistant, enabling users to access public policy information, ask questions, and interact with government services via mobile devices. Key features include instant messaging, voice recognition, and multilingual support, catering to Nigeria’s diverse population. CLHEEAN also allows citizens to submit feedback, report issues, and engage in discussions about public policies, fostering stronger civic participation. Lanre Issa-Onilu, director general of the National Orientation Agency, emphasized the initiative’s goal of bridging the communication gap between citizens and the government. As Nigeria navigates challenges in citizen engagement and public information dissemination, CLHEEAN reflects a growing trend in Africa, utilizing AI to modernize services, enhance transparency, and build stronger connections with citizens.
