The North Dakota State Board of Higher Education has launched two significant initiatives aimed at enhancing artificial intelligence (AI) education and workforce development through Valley City State University (VCSU) and North Dakota State University (NDSU). These institutes will equip educators and students with essential AI skills. VCSU’s AI Institute focuses on training K-12 teachers to effectively use AI in classrooms, providing professional development and ethical standards for AI. Funded by a $1 million Workforce Education Innovation Fund grant, it aims to create personalized learning opportunities and support AI career readiness. Conversely, NDSU’s Institute for AI in Learning targets interdisciplinary AI literacy and workforce training across various fields. It plans to integrate AI into 60% of degree programs within three years and engage industry partners through boot camps and research initiatives. Together, these institutes represent a proactive response to the growing demand for AI competencies in North Dakota’s educational landscape.
