In September 2025, Nothing introduced the Essential Apps Builder, an AI-powered tool enabling users to create personalized homescreen widgets using simple prompts. Initially limited to select users, this feature is now expanding to Nothing Phone (3) users through the Playground hub, where interested users can join a waitlist for the beta version.
Essential Apps Builder allows the creation of location-based reminders, agenda views, and contact widgets, though it does not replace traditional apps. Upcoming updates are expected to enhance its capabilities by integrating camera, microphone, and notification features. CEO Carl Pei highlighted improvements such as better design elements and support for image uploads.
Unlike conventional apps, changes made to widgets only update the edited elements, optimizing performance. The Essential Apps Builder is set to launch later this year for all Nothing and CMF devices operating on Nothing OS 4.0 or later.
