The future of AI workloads is evolving towards heterogeneous computing and networking infrastructures, according to expert insights. Lian Jye Su from Omdia notes that while enterprises initially rely on Nvidia’s complete solutions for AI deployment, they will also incorporate alternatives like AMD chips and custom solutions for cost efficiency and better chip availability. This diversification emphasizes the need for data center networking vendors to focus on interoperability and open standards.

As organizations scale their AI server capacities, Nvidia’s GPUs remain dominant, yet there’s a growing inclination to integrate other accelerators. Neil Shah from Counterpoint Research highlights that Nvidia’s NVLink interconnect allows flexibility for hyperscalers to pair Nvidia GPUs with custom accelerators from various vendors, broadening Nvidia’s market reach. A strategic shift toward custom compute architectures is apparent as many hyperscalers explore Arm or RISC-V designs, aiming for enhanced efficiency and reduced costs in their AI infrastructure strategies.
