OpenAI, Oracle Add 4.5 GW to Stargate AI Data Center Buildout

OpenAI has partnered with Oracle to expand its Stargate data center capacity by an additional 4.5 gigawatts in the U.S., marking a significant step for OpenAI’s infrastructure ambitions. Stargate, established in January with a $500 billion investment plan over four years, aims to enhance AI capabilities. Oracle, initially backing Stargate alongside SoftBank and MGX, will integrate this expansion with the existing Stargate I site in Abilene, Texas, totaling over 5 gigawatts of AI data center capacity using over 2 million chips. The initiative is projected to generate over 100,000 jobs, including permanent positions for data center operations and various construction roles. Construction is already underway at Stargate I, creating thousands of jobs, with parts of the facility operational since Oracle began deploying Nvidia GB200 racks in June, facilitating early training and inference workloads for OpenAI. This partnership highlights the increasing demand for robust AI infrastructure.
