OpenAI, Oracle, and Related Digital are set to build a large-scale data center campus in Saline Township, Michigan, aiming to enhance Stargate capacity across the U.S. Pending approval from the Michigan Public Service Commission, construction is expected to start in early 2026, delivering over 1 gigawatt (GW) of compute capacity. This multi-billion-dollar project, part of a broader commitment to expand Stargate infrastructure by 4.5GW for AI workloads, will span 250 acres and feature three 550,000 square-foot buildings. With a closed-loop cooling system and power from DTE Energy, the campus aims for LEED certification. The construction will create over 2,500 union jobs, generating an estimated 450 onsite positions and approximately 1,500 auxiliary roles in Washtenaw County. The effort underscores Michigan’s role in the AI infrastructure landscape, reflecting a significant investment in digital capabilities for the region’s economic growth.
